The Square and Compass is a decent looking stone built pub that is close to the river Derwent.
Once inside there was one long fairly narrow room which ran acroos the front of the pub,the room was carpeted and had cottage type tables and chairs,over half of this room was set aside for diners.
The pub is a Robinsons tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Robinsons bitter which was quite a nice drink,the other beer was Robinsons mild.
The pub was fairly quiet on my early Saturday dinner visit.
This is a decent enough pub that caters for normal drinkers and diners alike.
