I popped into the Hootenanny for a nightcap on a recent Tuesday evening. There were around 15 other customers sat amongst the high tables in the bar area. To the right of the bar were some unused standard tables and chairs that I imagine are more popular during food service hours. A competitively priced pub grub menu is available to eat in or take away. The bar is stocked with standard keg alongside Peroni and I found the service to be polite. Unfortunately, the guy charged with clearing the external furniture and fake hedge barrier was extremely rude, bordering on menacing.

Some loud background music was playing and I noted that there is live entertainment from 20:00 on Friday and Saturday nights. Plasma screens for airing Sky Sports are found throughout and wi-fi is available. This pub opens at 11:00 and closes at midnight seven days a week. I’d maybe pop back in here to watch football if passing, but I’ll not be rushing back.

Formerly “Fat Boab’s Alehouse,” and prior to that “The Lorne,” the old central bar has gone and been replaced by an L-shaped one along the corner walls. This has created a bit more space in the irregular shaped one room bar, which has a fake traditional look. In addition to the customary draught staples, there are two real ale taps. One wasn’t in use and my pint of Deuchars IPA, costing £3.50, from the other, was in less than perfect condition. Food is available, although no one was eating on the Friday evening I dropped in. Live music from a singer/pianist is advertised on Friday and Saturday nights. A list of licence holders from 1870 to the present day, painted on a wall, is an unusual feature in what is an otherwise decent enough but unremarkable pub.
