I'm not a fan of Greene King pubs, and have always swerved this one, either by walking past or just staying on the bus, but with 20 minutes to kill I decided to give it a go and was pleasantly surprised. Mainly this was because my beer, the generally despised Greene King IPA, was in tremendous condition. The others available were two from local Pheasantry brewery (with GK Abbot having its pump clip turned around).
This is a fairly substantial Victorian building on the edge of town, just at the point where the main road dives precipitately downhill. There are a few screens showing live rugby union at the time of my visit. It was fairly quiet, a lull between a busy afternoon and possibly an equally busy evening. I left for my bus before I could find out.

Situated on a busy crossroads just outside the main part of the town.
Dosn't look much from the outside but nice interior.
Open fire in the main bar.
Good real ales,tried Daleside's 'Spring'
Serves tasty reasonably priced food.
