An out of the way country pub covered with greenery - I meant to check what it is, but it slipped my mind. Probably just ivy. Anyway, once inside there are two rooms with a lounge to the right and bar to the left, warmed by a splendid solid fuel stove. The walls have some nice pictures of local scenes (see photos) and it was a pleasant place to spend a few minutes with a half of Adnams Broadside. Unfortunately my beer, one of four on the bar, none of them local, was getting a bit old, and had that banana-ish flavour that comes with oxidation. There are four hand pumps on the bar (see photo) and this is surely too many on a midweek afternoon in January. The licensee was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The pub is about half a mile from the nearest bus stop, with a frequent service - the Ilkeston Flyer - between the eponymous destination and Derby: four times an hour during the day in either direction.

Well what can I say, it's probably the only pub that closes at 15.00hrs on a SATURDAY!!
Staff unfriendly to strangers, unless you have a plum in your mouth. Landlord snob. The only good thing is they put bowls of water out for the dogs which is a great thing for those walkers taking the circular walking route by this pub. Wouldn't recommend walkers stop at this pub though as by the time you get there they are shut!!! Perhaps they should alter their cumstomer service manifesto to be nice to everyone not those that own racehorses and drive bentleys.

The Carpenters is a country pub but close to Derby and the Nottingham conurbation.
This pub has got two rooms we went in the bar which is on the left the lounge is to the right and this is mainly used for people dining which seems very popular on a Sunday dinner.
There were three real ales on but nothing special i had a drink of Pedigree this was decent enough the other beers were Bass and Greene King IPA.
The pub has an olde worlde feel to it but we felt out of place here as the customers are mostly upmarket horsey types who also probably go shooting.
