This attractive roadhouse sits on the opposite side of the valley to the hill of the same name. There are several small rooms, mostly set out for diners or for hotel guests' breakfasts, and some of them have views across to the hill. The bar has three hand pumps, of which two were available, serving Timothy Taylor Landlord and Whim Hartington Bitter.

One corner is dedicated to Coronation Street - original writer Tony Warren used to come here, apparently - and there are the original door panels from the Rovers Return, cast photos galore and a Newton & Ridley brewery mirror (non-reflective). Some of the tables are genuine old Singer sewing machine tables.

Visited this pub on a friends recommendation, he was right. We had a sunday lunch on a cold winters day and it was fantastic, they had real ales a real fire and a beer garden that would look really good in the summer. Apparently the owners are new and the chef is new, we found all the staff very eager to please, nothing was too much trouble. My wife and I hadnt visited this pub for some time, however, it is now back on our list of pubs to return.
