Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Miller & Carter Penn

Substantial pub building, formerly the Penn Cottage, but now very much an upmarket steakhouse restaurant. Having said that, as usual for this chain, there is a general seating area by the bar in addition to the much larger dining areas elsewhere. Furthermore, there are a number of wooden benches out in the (noisy roadside) beer garden. With the expected dull keg draught selection, I defaulted to the Chieftain IPA from (£2.85, half).

A large detached Miller & Carter Steakhouse with patio area and a rammed car park. The place looks quite neat, although plain - the main part being a cream rendered winged-corridor house, with sash windows and tall brick stacks. The interior has and open plan room all around a central island serving bar, which is part partioned into areas. The decor has dark red, green, cream and exposed brick, with a red and black carpet. There is a brick chimney in the 'bar' area. There is a wine display and arty arty (bulls featuring heavily) on the wlls. There were a couple of small TVs at the bar with sport on and there was no music at my visit. The service was fine. Beer; usual tap stuff with Peroni and Purity UBU and Marston's Pedigree on handpull. I had a coke. This is a restaurant, with the comfy seated 'bar' area next to the book-in desk, so you feel it is there for overspill and waiting. I would never venture in here for a drink only - i am sure the food is perfectly fine, judging by the number of people eating (only me in the 'bar area').

I almost always have steak when I go out for a meal and can honestly say that the fantastic chefs at Penn Cottage deliver the best steak I have eaten anywhere. The friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere make this a pub you should definitely visit :)
