The quaintly attractive exterior and name mask a modernised, but still appealing pub in one of Glasgow’s oldest streets. The etched glass windows, covered by protective screens, show the location, “Ship Bank Corner” as it was in the 18th century. The name derives from the “Ship Bank,“ one of several joint stock banks in the city at the time. The full island bar is surrounded by what is now one large bar room, but which retains a traditional atmosphere. £3 for a pint of Guinness is reasonable for the area and Belhaven Best, Light and Black are also on draught, as is Tennent’s lager.
