I’ll pretty much agree with young Quinno about this pub, it appears to have an ever changing selection of casks from smaller breweries if Ossett can be called small, two of theirs on; one badged Ossett, the other as Rat. Two other brews on the six pulls, one from Kelham Island and another from Renegade from down south. A collection of clips behind the counter, above the counter and on a nearby wall shows a fair range, some more interesting than others. Beer quality was good although I wavered towards very good. A trio of kegs, all lager and a Guinness solo complete the line up. Possibly the closest pub to the rail station, Holt’s Norfolk Arms is about the same distance but down hill not up, it’s an old style two roomer but in line abreast configuration. The counter is a sharp left turn on entering with a cosy sitting area to the right in the round end and another sitting room is further along to the left. This has map decor, quarry tiles and the banquette seating prevalent throughout. Certainly a good last call, opening hours mean first call may not work out mid week.

Old skool pub with simple upgrades but naff grim grey/green paint in places. Rear room. No arguments on my Acorn Most IPA though, a very solid NBSS 4 and followed-up by Bass (3.5). I liked it but slight under-performance in the décor stakes - could be better. But as it stands, probably the best in town for casketeers. Odd, then, that it isn’t GBG listed.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Star Inn
Attractive Good Beer Guide pub right by the station, with an unusual curved corner design. Two main rooms, a wedge-shaped bar (with dark wood panelling on the walls to match the counter) and a smaller lounge beyond. With four of the six handpumps in use, I found Boltmaker, Abbeydale Absolution, Pictish Azacca and the local Kerala from Howard Town (£3.40). Well worth a visit.
