The pub underwent a refurbishment last year but has emerged laid out much as described by Blackthorn, below.  It occupies half a building, which it shares with the village hall, making it the centre of village life in many ways.  The open plan layout makes it convivial, it’s dog-friendly, and there is outside seating at the front overlooking the small village green.  The rear extension accessed up a short flight of stairs contains a pool table. When we visited there was a very welcoming open fire, and equally welcoming staff.  Most of the tables had been booked for diners, but they were happy for us to sit at one until the people who booked had arrived.  The food appeared to be a special curry, at a remarkably good price. Ales on were Glastonbury’s Hedge Monkey, which was in perfect condition, on draft, plus Bath Gem and Tribute though these appeared to be on gas.  There was also a large selection of bottled Glastonbury ales and a boxed cider on the bar.  This was a superb find and one I’d be very happy to revisit for food, beer and a relaxing time.

A traditional stone-built country pub somewhat off the beaten track, albeit in the centre of this very small village. Years ago I always found the landlord to be a bit miserable, perhaps because we weren’t locals, but he has now left and the current incumbents seemed all together much friendlier.

The pub is split in to two halves either side of the bar counter with both halves sharing a flagstone floor. The smaller and cosier area is to the right with a low beamed ceiling, exposed stone walls and a blazing fire. The larger end to the left is still quite pleasant, but a little more contemporary. It looks as though it may have undergone some refurbishment with new beams on the ceiling and fresh plaster on the walls with salmon colour paint, although there was still some exposed stonework. A few pictures were dotted around, many of them of the pub. At the back of the pub was a skittle alley which is unusual these days in a country pub, and there was also a table football game in here. Piles of books along the side of the room were available to rent for 50p or purchase for £1 in aid of charity.

Food wise, the menu consisted of half a dozen or so dishes chalked up on a board, and these included Thai Red Curry, Ham Egg & Chips and Toad in the Hole. These were mostly priced in the £10 - £12 range, so slightly above your usual pub grub perhaps, but my toad in the hole was a very generous portion with three plump sausages and the plate completely covered in the batter. Chicken wrapped in Parma ham and served with dauphinoise potatoes was similarly well received and both the chicken and potatoes were very garlicky.

Somewhat surprisingly, the only real ale on tap was their own Ring of Bells brewed by the local Blindman’s Brewery, although they also had keg Gem and Dark Side from Bath Ales. Ciders were Bounders and Black Rat. Overall I really liked this pub and thought it was well worth seeking out.
