Hiding on a bypassed stretch of the old A1, this quaint-looking old inn has been mainly subsumed into a restaurant but retains a good bar area at the front. It is all very smart and the food is upmarket and verging on the gastro, but the place has largely kept the atmosphere of a comfortable country pub. I was pleasantly surprised to find some well-kept ales on, in the shape of Rigg & Furrow Best, Firebrick Pagan Queen and GK IPA.
