This is a carvery restaurant with a bit of a bar area attached. It seems that this is a Stonegate pub, and is a better bet than some others in this chain that I’ve encountered in London. The carvery meals are good value with the one-plate roast usually at £4.25 except on Monday when it’s £2.95. Relatives who visit regularly say that the quality is good. The place was surprisingly quiet on Christmas day; although there were plenty of diners as you would expect we had no trouble getting a table in the small bar area. There was a real log fire on the go here, which a local in the bar area told us was a regular feature on Sundays in winter – as well as Christmas day it seems. Other features worthy of mention are the attractive flagstone floor in the bar area; the large car park, and the large outside seating area. Mrs R’s presence also enabled me the rare experience of commenting on hot chocolate quality, which she said was good here.
I don’t think the bar area is the sort of place you would come just for some drinking (although we came in here for just the one), as it has the look of a staging area for those waiting for a table to become available. But they did have a couple of ales on – Harvey’s Best Bitter and Old. The Old was OK, but not quite as good as in the nearby Red Lion. My feeling is that this is a great place to come for a cheap and good quality carvery meal, but perhaps not for a few drinks unless it’s warm enough to utilise the outside seating.

Steve C left this review about Coopers Inn

The Coopers Inn is a pub and carvery that is located on Hailsham Road and is not accessible on foot to the feint hearted as there are no foot paths and some of the walk has to be done down a national speed limit road. This is probably the reason that every person was eating the £3.69 roast with as much veg as can be crammed onto a plate when I visited on Saturday evening. The atmosphere was nonexistent and there was a strong smell of fat throughout the entire pub, but at those prices I doubt many diners really care. There is a standard draught selection and six hand pumps are on the bar which were all adorning London Pride clips. The Guinness was good and the barmaid was friendly, but I was glad to escape to the covered seating at the front of the pub that separates it from the huge car park.

This pub has standard opening hours and food is served daily until 21:00, but the cut price roasts increase to £6.75 on Sundays which is fair enough.

I can’t imagine a return visit.
