Brief revisit: four beers on from Stonehenge, Skinners and Oakleaf. Sat in the lounge, some of the furnishing is a bit shot and needs a bit of TLC. Daily papers and CAMRA mags available.

Sept 2013
Traditional red-brick village pub just south west of the dead zone (pub-wise) that is Andover. Two separate rooms, basic (verging on the tatty) public bar on the right and a nicer (though deserted) lounge on the left. Pool table dominates the public bar, along with a plasma TV (off), loud music and a carpet that’s shot. The bar here has a roof-tiled awning. The lounge bar had wooden bench seating and some old pictures on the walls. Four ales on, two from Salisbury, Yeovil BSA and the permanent Betty Stoggs from Skinners. The condition of my choices was good, even if I didn’t rate the Salisbury brewery beers, recipe-wise. Competitive prices and a friendly (Rhodesian?) barman. Not my flavour of pub in some respects but there’s no denying it’s worth a visit for the beer. Rated 7

The Eagle is a village pub in an affluent working village just outside Andover, off the beaten track. It has, in five years, gone from being almost bankrupt to being Hampshire's CAMRA POTY due entirely to the landlord's dedication to his art. It is now known locally as one of the best real ale pubs in the area. Four ales and cider are always on tap. Their regular appears to be Betty Stoggs which is always excellent. Although mainly used by locals, there is a steady stream of ale lovers passing through. Well worth a visit any time for its beer quality alone.
