Planning application PT12/4059/F submitted 4th December 2012 pending decision for "Erection of first floor rear extension to main building and alterations to roofline of skittle alley to facilitate change of use from Public House (Class A4) to 3no. dwellings (Class C3) with associated parking, landscaping and works. Erection of detached garage." Looks like this will be ceasing to ever return as a pub.

A large, prominent pub located down a dead end road, so it probably doesn’t attract too much in the way of passing trade. It’s an imposing whitewashed building, but inside it all seems a little tired and dated. The right hand bar has little in it apart from a large pool table, although there is also an old piano with a large TV balanced precariously on top. The left hand bar is a more conventional array of tables and chairs that look as though they would be suitable for dining, although there was no food being served on our visit.

It was fairly quiet when we arrived with only a couple of other punters playing pool, although a few locals came in later. This seems to be quite a locals pub, as it seemed that most of them knew each other, and the landlord. Décor wise it’s all a bit of a mismatch, with various floor covering such as a parquet wood floor (which has clearly seen better days), red tiles and two different shades of carpet. The pool room has some wood panelling on the walls which must have been quite elegant at one time, but now just looks rather out of place.

Food wise there was a Sunday lunch menu chalked up on the board, and they do a Steak Night on Friday’s with two steaks for £12. The only beer on tap was Doom Bar, although it looks as though there may usually be a couple of others that had run out. Ciders were Stowford Press and Old Rosie.
