Following Steve here again but this time with a 12 year gap! Been PA’s this place many times so thought I might as well tick off at a quiet time just after 12.30pm on a Sunday lunchtime. Have also seemed to manage over recent years to tick off their venues wherever I have been that have one. Reality is their keg range and no cask is pretty typical of many traditional pubs these days! Was the only punter here apart from a small hen party that were keeping their festivities going on a Sunday lunchtime. The music was lively!
Aforementioned keg range consisted of Neck Oil, Aspall cider, Amstel, San Miguel, Moretti, Old Mount cider, Orchard Thieves Cider, Guinness, Brooklyn Pilsner and their Stonewall IPA.
Actually found the venue pleasant at this time as the crowds here seemed to be packing into smaller venues for their Sunday lunch. So no competition for socket to charge my phone! The operator seems to be closing venues left right and centre, so catch them whilst you can!

This venue was known as the Standard before being absorbed into the Revolution chain of bars. There are steps up to the entrance and although there were no bouncers on the door when I visited early on Monday evening there have been every time I’ve walked past later in the night. There is a little foyer at the entrance where I can imagine money exchanging hands for entrance at the weekends, but I may be wrong. There is a small bar area to the left that was roped off during my visit and I didn’t visit the vodka attic or clubroom that I saw directions towards. I did sneak out the back to have a butchers at the paved and decked garden that I thought to be surprisingly large for a place in such a central location. The main bar area comprises some sofas on the far and left hand walls and more conventional tables and chairs by the front windows. In the centre of the room are high tables and chairs and the bar is located along the right hand wall. The music was a mix of dance and R & B and flashing lights were bouncing off the disco ball that hangs from the ceiling. There are a couple of plasma screens on the back wall that were showing Revolution TV which is the advertisement channel for this chain of bars.
The bar is stocked with standard draught products alongside San Miguel which was served by a polite young barman. Food is served all day and all of the tables had condiments on them. This is not the cheapest place with the mains coming in around the £9 mark, but every Monday the food is half price.
I’m a bit long in the tooth to enjoy these types of bars and to be honest I still wasn’t the biggest fan of them in my youth.
