A canalside pub made from two or three cottages knocked through, with the multiple rooms opened out into a walk-through space mostly devoted to dining, with overspill to the garden. Despite the clear emphasis on food - it was pretty busy at 11:30am - there were five cask beers available, including two from Boot brewery, based in Repton just across the river. Although the interior has been fairly tastefully done, with rustic plaster painted a tolerable grey-green, the background music was truly awful. I had the local Boot Bitter which was in tremendous condition.

Part of a terrace of canalside cottages, the photos inside of it's days as a genuine boaters boozer sadden the heart, given the unsubtle gastro makeover. It was busy with diners early evening, impressive for a Monday but when they had all departed there was an influx of locals and the drinking and chat increased exponentially. The young bar staff increased the musak volume but took their eye off the service ball.I was not convinced by the food and ale quality was questionable, but this pub would be hard to beat for it's view over the Green and canalside.

The Green Dragon has clearly been recently updated and refurbished both inside and out and still feels new and rather corporate. I suspect it's been done by a chain but there isn't any obvious branding.
The pub sits right on the Trent and Mersey and there's a decent sized garden at the back overlooking the canal and its popular moorings here.
Inside is a large single room but it feels like the tardis in reverse as it seems much smaller inside than the outside view suggests. Floors are wood, tables new and it's all tastefully decorated with the obvious hand of a chain formula.
The menu is interesting and varied and there's clearly an ambition towards the gastropub end of the market. Early evening it was full of diners and the food we had was well cooked and presented but with an obvious control of portion size. As soon as food finishes at 9, the place filled up with local youngsters having a beer and a laugh with the young staff. A good atmosphere enhanced by some attractive young ladies with the inevitable disadvantage of a reduced focus on service.
Three handpumps dispensed Pedigree, Doom Bar and TT Landlord. The latter was ok and although it went down reasonably well wasn't in the best condition.
Certainly worth dropping in for a pint, some food perhaps and a view.
