Long narrow pub with bare floorboards and a dark interior. Seemed very friendly but the Wickwar BOB sampled was not in the best of condition. Not over-impressed.

Vittoria is a narrow fronted pub situated on the busy Whiteladies Road.
Once inside there is a small oblong shaped room with the bar on the left side, there are normal tables to the front and tables with small stools and chairs opposite the bar, there are tall tables and chairs to the rear,it was nice to see a real fire on the go on the right side.
There was one real ale on,this was St Austell Tribute, which was a decent drink.
There was background music playing and the pub was fairly busy on my late Saturday afternoon visit.
I was happy enough having a drink in this pub.

Recently refurbished and rebranded as the Vittoria Bar & Kitchen, this is not, as you might infer, now some sort of trendy gastro-pub, but still predominantly aimed at drinkers, albeit with a small food offering which may not have been the case before. Whilst it was previously perhaps looking a little tired, I can’t help feeling that it has now lost something of it’s previous character, and the fake exposed brickwork in particular didn’t exactly make me warm to the place.

Besides that, the paintwork is some rather vibrant hues of deep blue, burnt orange and mustard with some dark green wood panelling on the lower part of the walls. The flooring is predominantly wood strip, with some chequered tiles around the bar, and there are a few black and white photographs on the wall – some of these are locals scenes such as the Suspension Bridge which might be expected, but there is also one of the Tardis and a couple of daleks. Beyond this was an “art wall”.

Food wise, the menu offered a concise selection of dishes that appeared to have something of a French influence, with options including Beef Bourguignon, Fish Parmentier and Pork a la Moutarde. These were mostly priced around the £6/£7 mark, and unusually were available to take away as well as eat in.

Beers on tap were Butcombe and Tribute, whilst a third pump appeared to have run out. Ciders were Symonds Founders Reserve and Scrumpy Jack.
