bit of a Spoons in all but name, but with sports and grey paint. A decent atmosphere with pleasant background music (Mazzy Star, Cranberries and Sinead) and a wide range of clientele on an afternoon. Quite a few diners, others watching the football, others just having a quiet Sunday pint. The interior is vast, open plan and boring but it does the job. 4 ales from Coach House plus Lilleys lemon and lime cider. my pint of the winter ale was a bargain £2.75 but a bit tasteless, not much wrong with condition though. It’s probably a reliable option in Leigh where the more traditional pubs seem to have fallen from grace a bit.

Paid another visit in December. Six hand pulls with all in service. One was a cider (Lilleys?) and the ales were Doom Bar, two Christmas beers from Coach House, Spitfire, and possibly another festive themed one that I failed to make a note of.

My Coach House Christmas Stocking was £1.35 for a half, still cheap but not as bargain basement as a year or so before.

A bit of a gripe from me in that the barmaid served out of turn. The gentleman that got served in front of me appeared to point out that I was next, but she ignored him and continued to serve him. I assume he was a regular and got preferential treatment. Second gripe was a less than perfectly clean glass with what looked like it could have been a lipstick mark near the top.

The pub was quite busy at the time of my visit but despite the cheap food offering I only clocked one table with food, while I was on my way out.

The Weavers Arms has previously been a Yates's and also a Litten Tree, by all accounts. I called in here before Christmas and it was predictably busy though I did manage to get a seat. At the bar were six hand pulls, two of which were off, two dedicated to real cider and two offering real ale. At the time of my visit only one ale stood out which was Yule Be Back by Wily Fox (the other offering was Doom Bar). This was pleasant enough but not exceptional, however what took me aback was the price - 95p for a half pint - which is cheaper than the Spoons round the corner! With its family friendly nature, meal deals and cheap ale, it has seemingly set itself up in direct competition with Wetherspoons and it seems to be doing a good trade. There are various TV screens dotted around and there is a beer garden to the rear. I did stick my head in when passing yesterday and found all six hand pulls were clipped, offering three ciders and three ales, though the ale selection was not very inspiring and I didn't stay for a drink (a couple of big nationals and I think the other was a Robinsons beer). Probably not somewhere you're going to stay for a session but it's not bad.
