A single large room spreading into an extension at the rear, this thatched rural pub serves mainly diners from Blandford and Wimbourne, though there are a few locals who use it. The floors are a mix of carpet, tiles and boards, and the overall decor makes it feel like a faux-country pub which has been a bit yuppified. It also does B&B. The restaurant uses meat from local sources which are displayed on the menu board, but that doesn't justify the prices which are high for the area. Two ales on, both Badger - I had Tanglefoot which was in very good condition. I'd happily come back for a meal or drop in for a pint if passing.

One of Hall and Woodhouse's flagship pubs, this place is located on the busy B3082 from Blanford Forum. The interior is firmly in classic rural pub territory, replete with the obligatory fake beam ceiling. From the front door there is a spacious seating area to the left which was full of diners when I last visited, with the bar and a smaller, additional seating area to the right.
I was here for the England vs USA World Cup game, and there was a pretty decent atmosphere generated by those crowded around the small TV that had been set up on the front windowsill. The barman was enjoying the game too and was happily joining in with a bit of banter.
Only two ales to pick from - King and Barnes Sussex and Badger Best. I had a few pints of the Best and thought it was in very good condition. The pub has had more of a reputation for its food in recent years though, so perhaps that is the main draw for those who make the trip out here.
