Steve C left this review about Jolly Sailor

This pub closed at least ten years ago and as far as I can remember it was frequented by locals from the nearby Hollands and Oriel estates so intelligent conversations were few and far between. Hanworth isn’t the greatest of areas and all of the pubs seem to have been converted for uses other than serving beer. The Jolly Sailor Petrol Garage maybe handy for thirsty cars that pass by, but its demise has left a large part of Hounslow with no watering holes.

After a little research I have discovered that in 1939 a gentleman of the name Marmaduke Brecon, who hailed from this pub, came first from over 280,000 entrants in the News of the World darts championships in front of a 14,534 record crowd in the Royal Agricultural Hall in London. The News of the World restarted after the war and continued to be ‘the championship every dart player wants to win’ until the 1990’s.
