This pub is listed on Camra's inventory of historic pub interiors, so I was looking forward to seeing the "magnificent ceramic-fronted counter ... the largest of any of the 14 survivors in the UK with a curved front", but all I got was a glimpse through a dusty window. This is no longer a gay bar, according to information gleaned in conversations outside the Botanic opposite, but it only opens Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and then usually pretty late. It was a Thursday when I was here, and Tuesday night's dirty glasses were still sitting atop that iconic bar counter. (The exterior is looking a bit shabby, too.)

Right at the far end of spring bank across road from the Botanic Hotel.This is a gay pub there are no real ales just Mansfield Bitter on keg.
