Gastropub in an impressive building dating from 1651.

Purity UBU in great condition.

Food - expensive and small portions. Steak Sandwich £12.95 and not great value.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Barnt Green Inn

Very substantial, country-house type pub / restaurant on the edge of the village, with a fine Tudor-style half-timbered façade and a wood-panelled interior. Extended bar / lounge along the frontage, with further seating and dining areas further back. All very upmarket in terms of furniture and decor inside, but being set back some way from the road there is also plenty of space for an extensive beer garden. Two of three handpumps in operation, dispensing Pure UBU and Sharp's Atlantic (£3.90), with a reversed Doom Bar clip also noted.

This is a 'country pub and eatery', with patio and beer garden areas. This was formerly Barnt Green House, a 17th century building, later home to the Earls of Plymouth, whom massively restored/refurbished it in the 19th century in Jacobean style. The interior, to any traditionalist like myself, is a disgrace. It is simply a large open plan U-shape that is part partitioned. The walls are a mix of colours; red, plum, coffee, white and wood panel etc. Candles, sofas, comfy seats (mixing-up the designs for that spontaneous look), pouffes, cushions and toshy bistro art are the order of the day, which create, in my opinion (and many will disagree), a really nauseating environment. I didn't eat, so can't comment on that - i just came for a drink. I didn't see a TV and the background music was easy stuff at a decent level. The service was fine and a few people were scattered about, mostly outside. Beer; usual tap stuff with Doombar, Purity UBU and a decent enough Bath Ales Summer Hare on handpull. The best way to enjoy this place is to go out onto the patio, even if you are naked during a snow storm on a winter's night. One for those that like to go out - to their own front room.
