An attractive beamed pub which has been opened out and stripped down thus removing much of its character. A few nautical prints adorn the walls, otherwise it is all very plain and featureless. This is a nice garden area at the rear, including a large children's section. Despite various signs offering food, there was no-one actually eating at lunchtime which is possibly not a good indication. The ale range was fair enough through, with Ringwood Razorback, Gales HSB, London Pride and Rat White Rat on offer. Fair enough as a pub but I wouldn't rush back.

A large pub on a busy main road through a paradoxically quiet town, The Dolphin is a Victorian building whose ground floor has been knocked through to form a single large bar. Outside is limited, consisting of only a tiny car park. The floors are wooden at the front and carpeted at the rear. There is an attractive inglenook fireplace and a gaming machine which remains respectfully silent. Staff are very friendly, and there is a good selection of food on offer at a reasonable price. There were 5 ales on – I had a pint of HSB which was in perfect condition. There is also a decent wine list. I found this place by chance, but it is well worth seeking out if you’re nearby, and I would recommend stopping here for lunch if passing.
