Old Boots left this review about The Ship Inn

A pleasant pub and foodery opposite the church in a pretty village half a mile from Boroughbridge, it has the ruins of a roman town on its outskirts. Entering from the car park side there is a very formal dining room to the right and a cozy traditional bar to the left looking like it was originally three rooms. The bar counter is in the largest area with a large fireplace, quarry tile floor and is furnished with settles, chairs and tables. The other areas are carpeted and have Britannia and other cast iron tables with settles and chairs, there is a lot of brassware and old blackened beams, no doubt someone will say they are from some shipwreck or other. There is some nautical decoration but perhaps less than the pub's website would lead you to expect, there is also an auction poster from the sale of the pub in 1870. Cask beers from Theakstons and John Smiths plus the usual Tadcaster based stuff on the single T Bar; Strongbow, Fosters 1664, Guinness and a Youngers beer. For Theakstons Best I thought my pint was pretty good. Reasonably friendly sort of place with good banter led by a sparkling Scots barmaid. You may remember Brian and Elaine, the landlord and lady from a Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares show with “Campaign for Real Gravy” at their previous pub in Lancashire.
