A three-roomed pub on the corner of Littlehales Road and Pave Lane, which will become relevant shortly. The penultimate pub of my Newport visit, I had arranged my route to get here at opening time, which was 4:30pm. There were two or three other customers, one of them regaling the other(s) with a story of what he had told the boss - "...and so I said to him, I said..." - which, combined with a general distaste for the layout of the pub, the not very good Pedigree (I could have had Wainwright) and a certain amount of fatigue from the walking led me to take the road next to the pub as the route to my final pub in Church Aston without further consulting the map, as I knew that Littlehales Road was the one I wanted. A look at the map would have told me that Littlehales Road goes not only directly south from the pub but also, confusingly, west from a point on Pave Lane a little to the north. Well, it confused me anyway, and I walked nearly three miles more than I needed to before untangling the error. All of this coloured my experience of this pub, so I have not awarded a rating. I can still hear that bloke complaining about his boss sending him to Glasgow by plane, though. To stay in a hotel, of all things, because the only plane was in the morning the day before the meeting. Life's a beach, isn't it.

Having visited the Fox just down the road many years back, this Marston's pub in Chetwynd Aston can be found close to the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

We initially walked into the small bar area (entrance to the right-hand side). But the room was packed with a kids' football team and their parents. We retreated into a larger room to the left, also with access to the bar. There is an equal size room beyond that too. Outdoors, there is a seating area next to the pub, with a larger beer garden beyond the car park.

Pedigree is the regular beer here. Wainwright was also on. But the main attraction appears to be the pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven. The selection is listed on a blackboard at the bar. However, the oven was not in action on our Saturday lunchtime visit. Indeed, as soon as the football team had left, we soon became the only customers in the pub, leaving it completely empty after our departure.
