A first in here the other night. A dark and gloomy interior with spherical hanging lights which cast an orange glow over the pub revealing a colour scheme which is either very dark grey or black. The floor is bare boarded and furniture is either low leather(ette) sofas around coffee tables or basic old school furniture to the rear with a projector screen showing football (sound down) and generating a violently bright glow in the process; muted Beach Boys and Dexy's Midnight Runners played on the free-to-use jukebox.
I know from passing that this pub is full of teenagers come Friday and Saturday nights and music is loud.
Just two ales: Two Cocks Brewery's Roundhead and Truman's Zephyr at a pricey £4.40 a pint and ok, nothing more.
This pub isn't a disaster but it's the least desirable in the vicinity in my view so I won't be returning.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Regent

Opened out at some stage to leave a 'U'-shaped interior, this corner pub has a sparse arrangement of basic furniture and limited decor, but does benefit from a decent amount of window space. Just two real ales on handpump - Hop Stuff Arsenal Pale Ale and Two Cocks 1643 Roundhead Bitter (£4.55) - plus a limited range of keg and bottled beers. Menu is "pizza and more".

This is a simple, U-shaped Victorian pub roughly halfway between Highbury & Islington and Angel tube stations. The room is bare boarded and has a curved servery on the rear wall, half of which is actually devoted to making pizza rather than serving drinks. Standard tables have been arranged around the perimeter under some particularly large windows, each supplemented by low stools and a short banquette in the rear left corner. A huge mirror covers much of the wall back here, with a retro print to one side of it creating a bit of much needed visual stimulus. The general paint scheme is purple and white, which is a pretty good combination and helps give the place a fresh and bright feel. The right hand side is a little gloomier however, thanks mainly to the minimal natural light this space is exposed to. There is a large fireplace to one side whilst the walls have been decorated with numerous quirky contemporary art prints and the area works well as a cosier contrast to the rest of the room. A few picnic tables are available out front on the pavement, but most customers were crammed inside on my midweek evening visit, waiting for the quiz to get underway.
Just the two handpulls on the bar, one of which was sadly unclipped, leaving the sole option of Hop Stuff APA, which isn't a bad option to be stuck with. A limited keg range and good bottled beer selection helped widen the choice somewhat. My pint was pretty good, as was the pizza I ordered having seen a few other tasty looking examples being dished out. The pizza set me back a tenner and was brought over by a friendly waiter who stopped to chat to his customers on his rounds and was a lot more pleasant than the surly barmaids.
This is a pretty comfortable and satisfactory pub that did a good job in feeding and watering me prior to a gig at the nearby Islington Assembly Hall. I'm not sure it merits going out of your way for, but is certainly a decent double header with the neighbouring Hop and Berry.
