As described, this roadside inn is welcoming and lively. There is a large main bar which has been renovated in recent years, and now offers B&B as well as restaurant food to complement the reasonably priced pub grub. There was unobtrusive background music, a pleasant atmosphere and a good crowd in. The staff and locals were pleasant and welcoming, and dogs were welcomed too. One ale on, Glastonbury’s Lady of the Lake, plus 3 Thatcher’s ciders, Neck Oil, Peroni, Milk Stout, Grolsch and Black Bird cider. There’s also a large coffee machine behind the bar. A pretty good pitstop.

A basic, no frills boozer on the main A37. The sign outside proclaims “New Owner – New Attitude” which seems a strange slogan. I’ve not been here for many years, so can’t really comment on the attitude of the previous incumbent.

It’s a single room L-shape pub, and has very much the feel of a “public bar” to it. There’s a darts board and one end, and a pool table at the other, along with a shelf full of trophies that have presumably been won by some of the pub’s teams in the past.

There was a real fire blazing away which was a nice touch, but that was about the only concession to any homely comforts. There was an eclectic mix of clientele, ranging from a bald guy with about fifty different tattoos on his head to a couple of young kids running around. Food is apparently offered, although no-one was eating on our visit.

The solitary beer on tap was Doom Bar, although there was also a pump for Theakston’s Best that was not in use. Ciders were Blackthorn, Bulmer’s Original and Taunton Traditional. The only wine offering that I could see was a few miniature bottles of Stowells stacked up behind the bar, but I guess it’s not really that sort of a place.
