As this was my first visit to a Yates's, I went in with an open mind, hoping I would like it. If I had been more pessimistic, I would have been less disappointed. This large high street shop conversion consists of a single large wooden floored bar with a raised area on one corner. On entering, one's sense of smell detects stale beer and stale sweat, while your hearing is assailed by overloud tv sounds and shrill customers of two, possibly more, genders. The staff, although polite, were incompetent and, in one case, moronic. There were 2 ales on. I risked a Ringwood Best which was ruined by being too warm (a rare complaint from me) and very poorly kept. This is not an experience I am keen to repeat.
