We didn't try exploring this old pub, situated on a hill above town. Instead we stayed in the main bar amongst the locals. Peaking through the doorway into a second room gave a sneaky peak of what was to offer.
However, the beer range is a little disappointing here with a range of national ales. Bass & Wadworth 6X appear to be regulars, whilst the other 2 beers were Marston's Pedigree & Greene King IPA.

A bit of a steep climb up Mill St, from the micro pub, but well worth it when you see the view from the terrace at the back of the pub. The interior was also well worth a visit and the bar counter down the left hand side of the pub, was nicknamed "Old Warpy" as it had a real bad warp in it, with just enough of a flat area to place our drinks on. There was a choice of four ales on our visit, Wadworth 6X, Doombar, Tribute and Bass.

An interesting building that is on Camra's Regional Inventory of historic pub interiors. It has four rooms, one of which is an amalgamation of the original room and a quarry-tiled passage. The back room has bookcases and a view over the town. The central bar, with serveries in three of the rooms, has three sets of two hand pumps with an offering of nationally available beers: Bass, Wadworth 6x, Caledonian Deuchars IPA and St Austell Tribute. There was background music at a reasonable volume, and pretty good quality too. Otherwise it was pretty quiet when I visited just after opening time. I liked it here, and this would be a good pub to settle into for a longer stay, especially on a cold evening when the real fire would be very welcome.
