Towards the end of a warm summer Saturday visiting some of Belper's out-of-town pubs I made my way along the A6 by foot, past the cemetery to this nice-looking pub which is perched just off the main road. There were five hand pumps on the bar, with Marstons Pedigree plus Sharps Doom Bar and Atlantic. I went for the Doom Bar, which was OK, but this beer needs to be in very good or excellent condition to make a decent drink out of it - just OK makes it disappointing and, quite frankly, not very enjoyable. Which was a shame, as I had been getting thirsty and I'd bought a pint of the stuff.

The Fisherman Rest is nice looking stone built pub that is north of Belper.
Once inside there is an L shaped room to the front, this is carpeted and the bar faces, the seating is bench type to the left and normal tables and small stools elsewhere.
The pub is a Marstons tied house and has been for a long time, there were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Pedigree which went down well after brisk 20 minute walk, the other beers were Sharps Atlantic /Doom Bar and Hobgoblin.
Cobs were being made to order and looked very nice.
There was a TV to the right which was showing horse racing, there is a nice garden to the rear which was quite busy on a warmish day.
This is a very pleasant pub that i would be happy to have a session in.
