It was quite a walk to get here from the town on a warm, sunny day last summer, especially as the bridge across the river turned out to be private, with a locked and insurmountable gate on the other side, necessitating quite a detour around the cricket and football pitches and back along Farnah Green Road, up hill and down dale. When I got here it turned out to be a smart, food-oriented country pub undergoing a mid-afternoon lull. There was one hand pump on the bar, offering Landlord, but I spotted that Bass was also available from the cellar, or wherever the stillage was situated, so I went for that. Unfortunately it was not as cool as it ought to have been, so this was unltimately a disappointing visit, with another walk to next pub. Such is the life of roving pub reviewer.
