Hotel bar off the road down a gravel track. Red wallpaper and a handsome dark wood bar - a plush 80s feel, though let-down a bit by scuffed boards instead of carpet or varnished flooring. Not a soul in at 9.45pm Saturday night with nobody behind the bar. Eventually someone did appear but it all felt a bit Overlook Hotel whereas I’d have been happy with Crossroads. Just one cask over three sticks, a lacklustre Adnams Bitter (NBSS 2). Felt to me like it might have been popular back in the 80s but isn't now, which is a shame - it has the basics in place and is an oasis away from the town centre.

The clue here is in the name: The Stuart House Hotel and it is predominantly a hotel but with a decent bar.
The building itself is traditional Victorian from the outside but it has been added to and significantly refurbished. It's tucked away very close to the centre of Kings Lynn, is attractively covered in ivy, which hides the newer additions and has a decent sized public garden and a pleasantly quiet and relaxing residents garden. It's an attractive place to visit.
The bar is in the traditional part of the building to the right of the main entrance and has large windows and a door opening onto the garden, wooden floors and seats around the edge. I can't really give any more detail as the area had been cleared for the hotel's annual hosting of the Kings Lynn beer festival.
The beer festival takes place in the last week of July and, on our experience, is an exceptionally well run event and the Stuart House really does know what they are doing when it comes to beer and festival hosting. The festival itself spreads into the garden with various gazebos up and around 60 beers from a variety of local and nationally well regarded micros such as Triangle, Dark Star, Oakham, Titanic and Thornbridge as well as regionals such as Adnams and Woodfordes and nationals. Well worth a visit if you're anywhere near.
The owner is clearly an ale enthusiast and knowledgable. The hotel is GBG listed and offers Camra discounts.
It may well not be a fair representation as the beer festival was on but the 3 handpumps in the bar offered: Adnams Discovery, Black Sheep and Doom Bar.
Kings Lynn isn't well served for real ale pubs so I'd certainly give the Stuart House a go if in the area, would happily stay there and very much hope to engineer a revisit to their beer festival.
