Visit on a sunny Sunday late lunchtime, August 2013

This was not our first choice but there were road closures due to a bike event, and this was the first we came across on A3 on way south

Road to pub is just before the garage, blink & you will miss it. The road is narrow country one, with traffic light controls over a weak bridge, pub is just after the bridge, not far from A3 at all

The area seems to be a popular spot, cars parked [free]at side of road, presumably owners walking along the river, or in the pub.

There is a reasonable car park, but could be busy, but given free roadside parking you should find somewhere with a dose of luck

Looks like an ideal location, along side the river Wey, adjacent to a mill [no idea if a working one], as mentioned by earlier poster [who I suspect has links to pub]there is outside seating, and a beer garden, safe for kids because the river is sturdily fenced and there is only one entrance to car park & garden, so assuming parents take some responsibility all should be safe

On entering we were greeted and asked if we had booked [we had not], it was explained that they had a large, 20 covers] booking so could get busy later, but they found us a table readily and politely

As expected the pub is food focused, but had 4 handpulls on my visit, I had Hogsback TEA, £3.80, which a bit more than my normal pint, but given location it is not eye wateringly so. My companion had coffee, £2.60. Both were good

For food we opted for that old pub standby Haddock & chips, which was £13.50 a go, which for fish and chips is not cheap. Some may dislike the way it is served, very "cheffy", chips upright in a pot, peas in their own little pot, just have to tip the lot out anyway

However, that said, the chips were some of the best I have had, the fish [Haddock] was lovely, moist and a generous size. In the end I feel it was a fairly priced, served by attentive & polite staff

The staff are young [to me anyone under 40 is young], but plenty of them, all seemed very much on the ball, polite & efficient

To sum up, more gastro pub than local boozer, and all the better for it, I would not hesitate to return should the need arise

Recently refurbished to a very high standard, stunning location overlooking the River Wey with outside decking and top quality seating. Food is of a high standard, they do a great lunchtime & evening menu plus steak nights on a Monday & Tuesday & always a specials board incorporating fresh seasonal produce. Two local & two guest beers & good selection of wine. They now also do overnight accommodation (3 rooms), all en-suite with workstation & free WIFI. Highly recommended. A very warm & wholesome pub! :)

Very traditional pub in a pretty spot that is challenged to get the beer its needs, nice food, nasty step on the way in.
