Visit October 2014

The £1.70 mild is no longer a feature in the afternoons and is now £2.75. The guest ale is still £1.99. This can be hit and miss but sometimes it turns out to be something decent. The mild was superb on my visit last Monday.

Visit June 2014

I've been back to this pub a few times on a weekday afternoon and the beer situation seems to be this. There are three regular beers, Pedigree, Banks's Mild and Brakspear Oxford Gold then a cider and a changing guest ale for £1.99. The Banks's Mild is only £1.70 on weekday afternoons until 16:00 and at other times is £2.65. The Pedigree and Oxford Gold are over £3.00. It's not a free house but a Marston's pub as you can look it up on their website. The quality of the Banks's Mild and the guest ale have been very good.
I've upped the rating to 8 from 7. If you like Banks's Mild then it's well worth a look especially on a weekday afternoon.

Visit October 2013

I've been meaning to get to this place for a few years now ever since it first featured in the GBG. It remains in the 2014 guide.
The exterior does look like an original pub but it is not as it was originally a shop. It opened as the Thomas Willingale in the late 1990s and became the Station House in 2006. Once you enter the building it becomes fairly obvious it was once a shop. It is a large low-ceilinged open plan room that is strangely reminiscent of a Wetherspoons pub. As you enter from Station Road there is a pool table and the bar is on the right hand side with 5 pumps all clipped up. I noticed there was a cabinet that I would have expected to house a dart board, but it is clearly never regularly used as there is no chalking facilities or electronic scoreboard and the whole area is surrounded by furniture. A blackboard announced a Thursday Quiz. One annoying point for me was that there were TV screens showing some idiot babbling on about footbore.

It proclaims to be a Free House, but that claim is a bit dubious as of the 4 ales on sale only one was not from the Marston's stable and that was Cottage Lord Nelson. The three other beers I saw were Brakspear's Oxford Gold, Pedigree and Banks's Mild. I couldn't remember what the fifth pump sold but according to the Perfect Pint site it was Thatcher's Heritage cider.

I went for the Banks's Mild (£2.65) which was in very good nick. I believe this is the first time I have tried this beer in a Greater London pub.
A board outside advertised a cask of the day on Weekdays between 12:00 and 16:00 at the remarkable price of £1.70, something which will definitely lead me to investigate further if I get the chance.

I believe that on Friday and Saturday nights it caters for the younger clientele with loud music.
