A very good pub away from the town centre. 4 cask ales and 2 real ciders available (3 handpumps directly as you enter and 3 at the side). Outside seating at the front of the pub. Pleasant inside.

Substantial old building with main entrance located up several steps. Opened out inside to form a 'J'-shaped bar. Refurbished with semi-traditional but bland furniture and decor. Various silent TV screens. Radio style background music feed. Pool table to the rear. Small front terrace. Reasonably busy on a Sunday evening, which is a good sign. Four of six handpumps in use, with real ales including Rev James, Mansfield England's Pride and Adnam's Old (£3.00).

A neat looking detached corner pub in undressed brick, with some white rendering and black paintwork. there is a front patio.

The interior is technically open plan, but forms two areas in an L-shape around the bar that is just to the right of you when you enter. The far area is a pool and darts room, in white and red, where a couple of young chaps were playing. The lounge area is in white mainly with two brick fireplaces, one at either end of the room. The seating was brown. Interest was supplied by a few arty pictures and some old real ale bottles - Tanglefoot being one. There was a dart board here too and a TV, not on. The clientele here, a couple of maturer chaps. The service was functional.

Beer; tap stuff, with no MILD - three real ale hanpulls (with Salopian Shropshire Gold, Wadsworth 6X and another) were turned around - maybe the for sale sign had something to do with it.

A little lifeless to be honest and not helped by the loss of its real ales.
