Actually more than 15 years since last review for the other 50% of SE2 pubs. Very much a locals pub and a world away from the somewhat gentrified pub by the station. A very traditional pub where I doubt much has changed since the last review (indeed the sound track was very country & western during my time here). The pub was decked out for D-Day 80th anniversary celebrations and magnificent it looked I might add. Furniture v traditional and I sat at a high stool at the bar. A couple of large plasma screens that I would imagine will be on for the Euro’s but off during my visit. Dart board in the corner to the left of the bar.

One thing that instantly made it better than other SE2 venue was a dispensing (out of three) hand pump serving well kept Harvey’s Sussex Best. A most pleasant surprise for the venue and location. Other beers more as you might expect, Stella, Cruz, calling, Fosters, Moretti, Guinness, Strongbow, Inch’s and John Smiths.

This was a 10 min walk from the station and rarely have I felt so rewarded for a little walk knowing I had bet all on black and it could come up red. Not likely to be out this way again but it is another one that I will remember as a really decent old school pub.

A oasis in a desert. A comfortable single bar country style pub serving 2 real ales. Has quiz night once a week and live entertainment every week-end. Friendly staff
