My first time here for a few years, though this is my most visited Lake District valley. For a real ale enthusiast, the presence of the Brook House Inn, a truly excellent real ale pub, mistakenly excluded from the GBG, in the same tiny village requires a special reason to come here rather than there. The note on the Camra website "no regular beers" gave me that reason: it's a Robinson's pub, of course there are regular beers! The talkative lad behind the bar confirmed that Trooper, Cumbria Way and Dizzy Blonde are all on "90% of the time", but I went for the Amo, a single hopped pale badged as Unicorn Brewery. It was in good condition (NBSS 3.5) but ultimately a bit too one dimensional to be considered for 4-dom. The pub seemed better than I remembered, or perhaps it was just later in the day, with tourist crowds from the narrow gauge railway long since departed. I'd come here more often if it was the only pub in the village.

My bed for the night on day 4 of the Inn Way.
On the beer front, it was a couple of real ales. Hartleys Cumbria way was well kept.
Food was excellent.
Rooms decent. Staff very helpful.
Recommended.

Spent our honeymoon here, so it has a special place in our hearts.
Have visited several times since, and although not quite the same without Tony & Heidi Foster, seems a decent enough place, for lunch and and a couple of beers at least.
Stunning location, but best when things quieten down in the evening.
