What I assume is the original building is still painted white though the shutters are a less contrasting shade of green than past images show. The larger building to the right seems like a modern addition, and the traditional slate building to the left is probably a 19th century addition, with what may well be an authentic sign advertising post horses above a doorway. The pub was only just opening, and in fact I wandered in through a door and surprised a staff member who was still setting up. I noticed that the four hand pumps on the bar had no pump clips on, but it was so early that I only wanted coffee anyway. It seemed quite pleasant, with a bit of a rustic or old fashioned feel, which was helped by the large fireplace beside the bar. I hope the lack of real ale was only a temporary thing, and maybe I'll be back some day - not quite so early.

This is a strange one - it is of course a hotel, but it has two bars in two, what appear to be separate buildings, although they are connected. What turned out to be 'The Tapas Bar' has its own patio and is in the building that looks like an Austrian's house, being in white with green shutters. The interior i only noted as i walked out (from the other room!) and it seems at odds with its pleasant exterior - it is a sport's bar, having pool tables, TV's and a punchbag machine. The stone turret is the corner entrance to the 'Lounge Bar'. This is an irregular room, in stone, white and white rough plaster. There is a patterned carpet and white and beam ceiling. Areas were set-up for food, but i didn't eat, so can't comment on that. There is a big fireplace and the eclectic ephemera includes stuffed animals, brasses and prints on the walls. . There was no music here and the TV wasn't on. The service was ok and there were a few tourists in. Beer; usual tap stuff with Moorhouse Blonde Witch, Stagshead Bitter, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber and Wainwright on handpull - the last being fine. A chalk and cheese place - i can live with the lounge, but the sport bar would not really be my thing. Hit it at the right time i think.

The Stags Head is a largish pub that is on a small pedestrianised street in the middle of Bowness.
The pub part of the building is the white painted area the larger stone built part must be the hotel part of the pub.
Once inside there was a largish room and the bar was on the left this room was carpeted and had comfortable bench type seating with normal tables and chairs, there was another area behind a wall which was more like a bar this area had a pool table and pin ball machine in it.
There were four real ales on the bar we had a drink of Moorhouses Stags Head Imperial bitter and this was a very nice refreshing drink the other beers were Moorhouses Blonde Witch, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber and Thwaites Wainwright.
We found this to be a comfortable and decent pub and we were quite happy having a drink in here.
