A low barn-type building (actually converted from farm cottages) with plenty of parking just by the main South road out of Edinburgh, The Steading is a convenient place to stop when walking the Pentland Hills, using the nearby dry ski slope or on the way to visit the Roslyn Chapel. It has two large bar areas, one primarily a restaurant, though bar food is served in the other. There is an outside area with good scenic views, but it tends to be hogged by smokers and spoilt by their litter. The staff are friendly, and the food is good value - I had a deep fried haggis, which didn't give me heart attack. Three ales on, I had a pint of Duechres which was in good condition, justifying the pub's GBG entry. One of the better places to stop in this part of town.
