Well hidden down a series of narrow country lanes, this superb village pub is well described internally by BF, below. Outside there is a tiny car park and space for one or two cars on the road outside. Two friendly dogs guard the back gate. There is a pleasant garden with a smoking area and, on this occasion a marquee which is intended primarily to house their annual beer festival. The staff were friendly, including the Marlon Dingle look-alike who appeared to be home from university for the Summer and was being gainfully employed. Food looked very good though we didn’t eat. Two ales on were Exmoor Ale and Steam Box Piston Broke. The beer was in very good condition. I’d be very happy indeed to come back here and will make an effort to visit the beer festival in future years.

A very charming village pub ,now a free house, with a good reputation for decent pub food. The interior takes you back to the day when pubs evolved in peoples front rooms. The front door leads to a corridor with private stairs to the accomodation and two original doors with inset etched glass ,both not used these days but indicating an original two room layout.
Carry straight on to a quarry tiled mainroom with a large real fireplace and three circular tables, which is the main dining area.Above the warming fire there are chalk boards with the menu, with lots of daily specials. To the left of this area is a charming bar with an assortment of armchairs to sit in and drink, very much a front room feel.To the far side there is a dining room with it's own fireplace but unlit, this appeared more of an overflow area if the pub get more than a handful of diners.
A husband and wife team run the pub,him behind the bar,she cooks homemade dishes and we had a very hearty and good quality meal.
There are three handpumps with Doom Bar as a regular with guests on my visit of Church End Fallen Angel and Ashover Font (very decent nick). The pub is popular with villages, walkers and diners and it is really worth a visit to experience the village pub atmosphere and see the quirky interior.I will be back.

Good, warm welcoming pub in quiet village near the Somerset / Dorset border. 3 Ales on - Doom, Exmoor Ale and Summer Lightening, with local breweries often featured as a guest ale. Quite a few tables set out for dining but the pub needs people to come to it as it is not somewhere you would necessarily pass on your way. The large garden up the slope behind the pub is a welcome feature on a warm sunny evening with lovely rural views across the valley. Ask the landlord about local walks.
