Now an Indian restaurant called Shampaan. Whilst it still looks like a pub from the outside, it is far from that inside, with some fairly garish furnishings. Beer these days is restricted to Sharp's Atlantic & "Indian Beer". Not quite sure what the Indian Beer was, but I didn't bother investigating.

The restaurant was busy. Food was ok, without being particularly inspiring. Plenty of other people were complaining.

It's far from the Nags Head, but it served a purpose.

Well worth walking down from the canal to this friendly, chatty pub.The main bar wraps around the serving counter and has a reasonable amount of seating.Used by a lot of locals who enjoy the ever changing range of mainly local microbrewery ales ,this is a genuine free house where the ale quality is good. There is also a back lounge which was not open on our visit. The food is substantial, well cooked and traditional pub grub at very reasonable prices.I felt this was the best of the three pubs and one restaurant in the hamlet of Wheelock and would return on my travels.
