Traditional pub at the top of the hill overlooking the eponymous town. Initially looking worrying quiet because the front and side doors are both closed off, but there were lights on inside so I ventured round the back to find the car park door open. Once inside, there was a card game being played by one large group, the pool table was in use and football was being shown on the TV screens. Sparsely furnished, although the regimented bench seating along the main frontage is a bit unusual. No handpumps on the counter, unfortunately, but at least Banks's Original (£2.90) and Bitter were amongst the keg options.

Locals pub with no real ale. We were made to feel welcome and the service was good. Can't really add to Soupy's description - would be better with an ale on.

A detached Banks's corner pub in yellow render and black paintwork. A cottage styled pub, with extension and a bowling green with glubhouse and patio at the rear.

The interior of the pub is open plan with some wood partitioning. The decor is a mixed wall colour scheme of chocolate, white and orange with yellow ceiling. The extention is a games room, accessed by an open archway. It has a pool table and dart area and a few USA based pictures on the walls and wood floor. The main room (accessed by the car park as the front door seemed shut) is a lounge/bar and carpeted. It has a mix of pictures and photos, several of John Wayne. There are TVs in this room - showing Sky Sports News at my visit and the horse racing. There was no music. The service was fine and the clientele locals, playing dominoes etc and were friendly.

Beer; no real ale, just some bottles. All the usual keg drinks, with a decent enough Banks's MILD

I found this a tidy and friendly place - in some ways like a member's club, with the sports and bowling green. Well worth a pop in for those that are happy with keg beer - shame it doesn't have real ale - only thing it lacks
