Popped in here for a post curry lastie,it's the home of St Andrews Brewery and has the brewing equipment on view behind a glass partition to the left of the building. The decor is of a modern bar,L shaped with a lower section to the right and it's popular with a young crowd, some circuit drinkers and doormen on duty on a Friday night to keep order. There was one guest in Barsham Norfolk Topper and then house brews Wensum Ale,Festival House (NBSS 2),Cork Cutters (NBSS 3) and Tombland Porter (NBSS 3) sampled for a flight of three thirds.
There are so many great real ale venues in Norwich that this wouldn't make my list for a revisit,it's a bit souless and dull sadly.

I couldn't remember much about this place, as I'd visited towards the end of a session in Norwich previously. This time, it was just 3rd on my list of pubs. So, I got a better idea of its true nature.
My previous visit had been early evening, when I recall it having mainly drinkers. Our lunchtime visit found mainly diners, especially in a lower level area. We contented ourselves with propping up the bar. Although there may have been more seating on upper levels.
Rather disappointingly, there were none of the in-house St Andrews beers on. The 4 available were Adnams Ghost Ship & Barsham Spicy Old Santa, Norfolk Topper & Golden Close IPA. I avoided the Christmas beer and opted for the Norfolk Topper, which was nothing particularly special.
This place feels much more like a restaurant than a bar these days and with a depleted selection of ales, I'm surprised that it is still included in the Good Beer Guide considering the plethora of excellent pubs in Norwich.

Slotted into traditional buildings on a corner site with large windows.
Inside has been heavily refurbished, nicely so, and is now a large, light filled space which brought to mind the description refectory. It's all white tiled walls, high ceilings with lower hanging lights, scrubbed pine and tall metal tables.
The bar is at the front with the brewery clearly visible behind a glass wall to the left while the larger dining room is at the back.
Tours are offered around the brewery, on request it seemed. A sign to the left of the bar indicated a "Growler Station" which, being with the family, I didn't investigate further and I noted full days with the brewer on offer.
Five St Andrews beers were on hand pump: Tombland Porter, which was very good, Grocer's Ghost, Snapdragon, Wensum Ale and Cork Cutters IPA in addition to Grain Blonde Ash.
There was also a row of 8 keg taps on the side of bar with three from St Andrews and offers from Northern Monk and Weird Beard as well as Redwell and Adnams more locally.
The menu listed modern British pub fare ranging from small dishes through sandwiches and starters to main courses. We tried some of the smaller dishes which were very good and the menu is decent value.
Mrs TP felt that the barman was a "charmless nerk" but he was efficient and informative when asked about the beers and the brewery it was just that when asked to smile, his face steadfastly refused to co-operate.
An excellent, relatively recent addition to Norwich's extensive real ale choice and well worth a visit. Perhaps the best I found in the city centre.
