A bit of a schlep out to this GBG pub. Sadly it’s a gloomy place both outside and in, the interior with a stupid double blue colour scheme, like some sort of country hick’s wardrobe and there were only a couple of other punters in - unlike the pubs in town a few minutes away, which were packed. Three cask; neither of my Logan brews impressed on taste, NBSS was 3 and a 2. Skeletal ginger barmaid felt mildly at odds with her surrounds. I took against this one and was happy to get gone.

This pub is side on to the road, with a beer terrace in front. The bar counter had its back turned, but has four hand pumps. One was turned, but the others were two from local Logan Beck, which deserves to be better known, and the other from Moorhouses. My half of Logan Beck Navigator was very good, close to but not quite reaching NBSS 4. One to keep an eye on, and its proximity to the station makes it a must visit between trains, but check the opening times before getting off the train.

After finding the Devonshire still closed after Covid on my last visit to Ulverston, I made it top of my priority list for a return trip to the town on a sunny winter's Friday afternoon.
Arriving at midday, I found the landlord tidying up his outdoor terrace in the hope that a few hardy souls might chose to brave the still fairly cold weather. Despite the sun shining, I chose to go inside to sup my beer.
The real ale range is currently reduced to two - Bowness Bay Swan Blonde & Logan Beck Navigator. Real cider is apparently available during the summer months.
The interior is nice enough, but lacked customers (and therefore atmosphere). Some kind of news channel was on the TV. The pub failed to live up to the lofty expectations I'd set it. I'd hoped it would be the best pub in Ulverston, but sadly there are several better ones elsewhere.
Original review (July 2020):
The Devonshire was the one pub in Ulverston that was still closed following the coronavirus lockdown on my Thursday evening visit. It was still closed when I went back on Friday evening. But apparently, it finally re-opened on Saturday.
At least I have an excuse to return to Ulverston some time.
