The Cuckoo is well known in Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire as a fine country pub. We are situated in Alwalton. There is always a warm welcome with roaring log fires, freshly prepared food, great selection of real ales and a diverse wine menu for you to choose from.

An attractive old stone built pub with a pleasant garden. Technically in the village of Alwalton opposite the thatched Post Office, but just a few minutes walk from the nearby business park on the outskirts if Peterborough. I sometimes stay up here on business, and it seems to be by the far the best place within walking distance. They had a few beers on tap, Bitter & Twisted being one that seemed quite popular. Only Strongbow cider on which was a shame, but they had a decent selection in bottles.
I've drunk in here three times now, and ate once. The food was quite ok - nothing spectacular, but quite decent pub grub. I certainly didn't have anything to complain about and the prices weren't too bad. The staff seemed ok - not especially friendly, but certainly not unfriendly. There's a decent looking beer garden for the warmer weather and a nice selection of different areas within the pub.
The only downsides were the comment from the barman when the beer ran out and I asked if had anymore - I got the impression that they had but he wasn't going to bother changing it, although I may be wrong. I they do seem keen to get rid of you as soon as it's closing time, but then that was on a Sunday & Monday when there was nobody else left in there. It may be different on a weekend.
Worth a go I'd say, and especially useful if you're staying at the Marriot and don't fancy their restaurant or the Harvesters.
