The Theatre Tavern has an attractive green tiled exterior, and unfortunately that’s where anything of interest ends. The bar counter on the right wall faces seating that encircles a central supporting column. In the left front is a small raised area for the weekend DJ and I spotted what looked like a right hand bar, but it was lights out. My visit was on a recent midweek afternoon when this place was busy with ten or so local pissheads who were loudly singing along to Three Lions. I wasn’t surprised to find just standard keg available. I was glad to leave, but was also fearful of what other monstrosities I would find on this crawl of Ashton, this being my third pub of the day following Fat Lenny’s over the road and the Baue Geste. Dark Times!

Not great but of an afternoon it was ok. No real ale. I doubt I'd ever be here of a night, or the whole of Ashton to be honest, but it wasn't too bad today.

This is a great looking pub from the outside with excellent green tiling. Once inside there's one large room which was set up for karaoke with a big screen that was playing Magic FM at a decent volume. There's another much smaller room at the rear with a pool table. Sadly it's a keg only pub, so I had to have a half of fizz when the landlady / barmaid eventually decided to finish playing on the fruit machine to come and serve me. It was late on a Friday afternoon and she was wearing slippers and reminded me of Flo in Andy Capp. Tried to get a conversation going with her, but I've seen more life in a dead sheep. This pub deserves to be rather better than it is at the moment. Unless I hear that it's changed hands I won't be coming back here.
