Old Boots left this review about The White Bear
Large but nastily modernised, once called the Royal Hotel following an 1835 visit by Queen Victoria, before she was queen, and her mum. Nothing regal now, a multi space mess with seating areas either side of the door, central servery and a pool table and usual services behind. A few screens and constant music complete the scene. Only the usual mundane range of kegs to drink, it does food as a few forlorn menus would testify. Down the side it has a magnificent Art Deco extension, sadly being Barnsley that gem is much neglected.
