A return visit recently was prompted by my daughter and her husband having bought a house in the nearby village of Cwm-y-glo, just a mile away from the Glyntwrog. We called in - it would have been rude not to - and were pleasantly surprised to see that the bar is no longer blighted by the national beers previously stocked. (For "national" read Marstons, of course, as Brains no longer brew their own beers.) The two beers on the bar were a blonde and an IPA from Bragdy Lleu, just under 10 miles away. The brewery and their beers are named after legendary Welsh heroes. (Lleu - pronounced "thlay" - was a legendary warrior, while my daughter's blonde beer was called Blodeuwedd, a woman made from flowers by a wizard, and my very good IPA was named Bendigeidfran after a mythical Welsh king.)
I wouldn't be surprised if I call in again before too long.

This is a nice traditional roadside pub which is making an effort with the real ale. They're involved with the Arfon Real Ale Trail, which was due to take place about two weeks after my visit, and their own beer festival in September, though the latter involves only a doubling of the present two hand pumps, according to the friendly and helpful young man at the bar. The two beers when I was there were Brains Rev James and GK Old Golden Hen. I went for the Brains, but it was a bit old, which was a pity. I liked it here, though. Hopefully the beer is better at busier times of the year.
