Day 5 on the South Downs Way and this was my accommodation for the night.
Had to wait till 6pm for it to open! But only 45 minutes and someone had kindly left the Times outside.
Beautiful inside. Badger Beer (a rare find) and I tried the First Call and the Tanglefoot - both excellent but my preference would be for the former.
Food superb - evening meal was excellent and breakfast was outstanding!

Friday lunchtime visit, approx 1430, apart from two mum's + toddler on the patio I was only customer [they close at 1500 so may explain it]
Sort of rambling layout, all open plan but distinctive areas, such as for dining. Most of the table seemed to be more suitable for eating than drinking. Normal country pub decor, you know the type, old photos on the wall, plough items, wooden tables etc
Four hand pulls on my visit, but two were for same brew [Badger], I had a Sussex and forget what the other option was. My pint was £3.25
Food available, but around the £10 up to £15 & climbing mark, not the place for burger & chips for under a fiver. I did not see or try the food so cannot comment on value for price charged
As would be probably be expected in a rural, commuter type Hampshire village, there is not a pool table, dart board etc to be seen, or maybe I just missed them?
Large car park at rear, if you have a toddler keep them in sight, the river Meon runs alongside behind the hedges and it is big drop down into relatively shallow water
The service was polite & prompt [well I was the only customer], however the staff spent their time gossiping with a villager, and I do not think some of the details I heard should have been bandied around a public bar with a complete stranger earwigging
I would not make a journey to go here, but if passing then maybe re visit just in case it was an off day or time
