I'm sure this wasn't a pub last time I was in town. It's an elaborate conversion of a huge ecclesiastical building that appears to have been built with the same stone as Aberystwyth Station. I was the only visitor on a Thursday afternoon but had a fairly enjoyable stay here checking out the vast interior. On the bar there was the heavy duty Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon cider, Felinfoel IPA and a Cambrian Best where I couldn't read the brewery name. I asked the young barmaid if she knew who made it to which she replied she didn't and gave me a look as though I had posed her a question about advanced quantum mechanics. I suspected that it was another Felinfoel offering and on my return home found that to be almost certainly the case.
I went for the Felinfoel IPA (£2.70) and although it was well kept it was a pretty mediocre brew.
Given that this place is clearly geared up for the student market I can't help thinking that they might do better getting in more interesting Welsh ales than the insipid Felinfoel and I don't mean Brains.

Massive derelict old chapel, given a very expensive and unholy refit as a massive two-level bar. Fair drinks range, now has an ale on (usually Felifoel) and the prices have stabilized a bit. Service is notoriously variable. Worth an evening visit for the architecture.
