An attractive looking pub in a rather out of the way cul-de-sac, it’s unlikely to get anything in the way of passing trade and is consequently something of a local’s pub, although they do have a skittle alley which obviously must attract visiting teams. A small garden with a few picnic benches is out the front, along with a good sized car park.

Internally it consists of a public bar to the left and a lounge to the right. We didn’t inspect the public bar, but from what I could see it had quite a rough and ready appearance. I also noticed a plasma mounted up on the wall and a darts board. The lounge was more traditional, although perhaps a little dated. The usual red patterned carpet was on the floor along with some lino around the bar counter whilst the walls were predominantly cream with some maroon details and woodwork. There were a couple of chunky wooden beams on the ceiling and exposed stone walling at the front. The room was divided in to two with some wood partitioning, with the rear half being filled with tables and chairs, and having a little less atmosphere, perhaps. The front half was a little cosier with a stone fire-place, a few small water colours on the walls and bench seating around the perimeter.

The menu offered a good selection of “pub grub” dishes such as chilli con carne, lasagne, sausage and mash etc., and these were mostly priced around the £7 mark. The only item on the “specials” board was hot dog and onions at £3.50! My chicken tikka masala had some decent chunks of tender chicken in it, but it was really a rather bland, generic curry with little flavour. I certainly wouldn’t have known it was a CTM and there was far too much rice in proportion to the curry. A dish of faggots with mashed potato and gravy was again, fairly average. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but certainly nothing special and Mrs B. made the point that it tasted as though it had been nuked in the micro-wave.

The solitary beer on tap was Doom Bar, although a second pump appeared unused, so there may perhaps be others on occasions. The only cider that I saw on the bar was Thatcher’s Gold, although another punter was drinking something that appeared to be a traditional cider, so perhaps I missed that.
